Service Description

Do your vegetable gardens fail to live up to your expectations in terms of appearance, plant health, and production? Are weeds taking over? This class will go over a variety of approaches and methods that will make the process of growing vegetables straight forward and easy to understand. It will focus on organic principles. It will cover information for a variety of growing situations from in-ground growing, to no-till, and raised boxes. Other subjects included will be developing healthy soil, the importance of compost, fertilizers, easy drip irrigation systems, vegetable garden design, vegetable variety selection, planting, plant spacing, trellising, and successive planting. Taught by Kate Frey, who is a well-known garden designer, pollinator advocate, and garden educator. She designed noted gardens in California such as the organic public garden at Fetzer Vineyards, Lynmar Winery and the Melissa Garden in Healdsburg. Her gardens won 2 gold medals and one silver-gilt medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in London, a rare honor for an American designer. She has created gardens in Malaysia and Japan and managed an organic farm in Saudi Arabia. Kate is a regular garden columnist and writer. Her book "The Bee-Friendly Garden" was selected as one of the best 2017 gardening books of the year. Her book, "Ground Rules" was published by Workman Publishing in 2018. Kate has a B.A. in English. NO REFUNDS—but you may gift your class to a friend if you are unable to attend.
